We manage and handle our livestock so that they live in a low-stress environment. Our cattle always have access to open pastures, fresh air, clean water and plenty of sunshine.

Our Story

My name is Bob Busch and my family and I own North Prairie Livestock Company.
I grew up next door to my grandparents’ farm in Iowa, helping my grandfather with the dairy and beef cattle and row crops. I loved my time helping on the farm and jumped at the opportunity to build a farming operation of my own. I wanted to use a different approach to heal and regenerate the land with diverse perennial plants, livestock, and farming methods that are integrated with nature. Our small family farm is located in the rolling hills north of Blair, Nebraska. We raise and sell grass-genetic South Poll cattle and grass-fed and grass-finished beef.

Our Standards On Raising Healthy & Happy Cattle

We rotate our cattle daily to ensure our cattle have access to fresh pasture to graze and clean water. By moving our cattle, we improve their health and eliminate many of the diseases and health issues more often associated with cattle in confinementwho are exposed to disease and stress through tight quarters and standing in mud and fecal matter. We move and sort the cattle out on the pasture, which creates a low stress environment, and we utilize humane methods when working with the cattle. We do not use antibiotics, insecticidal wormers, growth hormone stimulants, or GMOs.

FAQs About Our Livestock & Processes

Grass fed beef simply means that the cattle eat grasses and forages only. During the nongrowing season, our cattle receive quality mixed grasses and other forages in hay.

We are a forage based farm. We do not burn or spray our pastures with herbicides, insecticides, etc. We use perennials and cover crops to provide a variety of forages to our cattle. Our approach is animal centered, focusing on humane treatment and a low stress environment. We do not feed any GMO’s, growth stimulants, or antibiotics. Our cattle are not grass finished in a feedlot, they are all finished on pasture.

Farm visits are by appointment only. Please contact us if you wish to visit the farm.
